Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question about our organisation? Take a look below at some of our most frequently asked. If you still have a question afterwards, feel free to contact us via email, Facebook Messenger or Instagram DM.

Where are you located?

Our primary kitten nurseries and adoption rooms are located in Bangor and Illawong. However, our team of foster carers extends all over Sydney and we take in kittens from anywhere. Visitations are by appointment only and at the discretion of our team, usually for shortlisted adoption applicants.

What is your adoption fee, and what does that fee include?

Our adoption fee per kitten is $450 which covers the kitten's upbringing, and necessary vet work -including two vaccinations, microchipping, desexing, and up to date flea and worming treatments. Kittens are generally ready to leave our care at around 10 weeks old but this can vary depending on the kitten.

Will I have to complete any further vet work once I have adopted my kitten?

After adoption, you may choose to provide your kitten with their third booster vaccination, four weeks after their second. Only some vets choose to vaccinate three times, so this will be at the discretion of your local vet should you already have one - if you don’t we typically recommend vets in your area upon adoption or encourage you to use one of the vet clinics we work with. You will need to take your kitten back to the vet in a years time for their annual booster vaccination. You will need also need to continue with their monthly flea and worm treatment - you will be given a handout on adoption that details all the products used in care at the Sanctuary, and that we recommend going forward (though this is not essential - we always encourage adopters to do their own research regarding products).

Please note that animals can get sick just like humans, so you may be required to take your cat to the vet for other reasons from time to time throughout their life.

How do I adopt a kitten from The Kitten Sanctuary?

You can view the kittens we have available for adoption under Adoptable Kittens. You’ll then be required to fill out an adoption application, which you can find under Adopt.

How does your adoption process work?

After you submit your application, it will be read and processed by one of our team members - if we believe your home and lifestyle is suitable for the kitten of interest we will contact you via phone for a meet and greet, which allows both parties to decide if the adoption is a good fit. If the kitten is available for pre-adoption, a 50% deposit ($225) is payable to secure the adoption, with the remaining $225 due by the day of collection. If the kitten is ready for adoption, full payment upfront is due. All relevant paperwork (contract of adoption, certificates of vet work, and change of ownership) will be completed and handed over on the day.

I’ve submitted an application to adopt, when will I hear back?

Due to an overwhelming number of applications at times, (and busy days raising little kittens!) only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. However, we will always post an update on our social media channels (linked above) when a kitten has been adopted, so be sure to follow along and keep up to date. We kindly ask that you do not call our phone number regarding an adoptable kitten or adoption application, as that is our primary contact for kitten intakes and emergencies.

I missed out on a kitten, do I need to submit another application to apply for another?

Yes you do, as our application form resets for each round of kittens that become available. For this reason, we recommend saving your application/answers for future use when applying (check ‘send me a copy of my responses’).
